عَلِمتُكَI have known you وَاللَهُand God الحَسيبُthe Reckoner عَفيفَةًchaste
عَلِمتُكَ وَاللَهُ الحَسيبُ عَفيفَةً
مِنَamong المُؤمِناتِthe believing women غَيرَnot ذاتِpossessing غَوائِلِtreacherous schemes
مِنَ المُؤمِناتِ غَيرَ ذاتِ غَوائِلِ
I have known you to be chaste—and God is the Reckoner—
I know you, by Allah the Accounter, chaste
Among believing women, harboring no treachery.
Among the faithful women, without intrigues
حَصاناًchaste رَزانَsteady الرِجلِthe foot يَشبَعُeats his fill جارُهاher neighbor
حَصاناً رَزانَ الرِجلِ يَشبَعُ جارُها
وَتُصبِحُand she wakes غَرثىhungry مِنfrom لُحومِthe flesh الغَوافِلِthe unsuspecting women
وَتُصبِحُ غَرثى مِن لُحومِ الغَوافِلِ
Chaste and steady of foot, her neighbor eats his fill,
A mare, steady of step, her neighbor is sated
And she wakes hungry, having eaten none of the flesh of unsuspecting women.
Yet in the morning is haggard from the spoliations of the plunderers
وَماand not قُلتُI said فيconcerning مالٍwealth تُريدينَyou wish أَخذَهُto take it
وَما قُلتُ في مالٍ تُريدينَ أَخذَهُ
بُنَيَّةُlittle daughter مَهلاًwait إِنَّنيindeed I غَيرُnot فاعِلِdoing so
بُنَيَّةُ مَهلاً إِنَّني غَيرُ فاعِلِ
Nor have I said, concerning wealth you wish to take,
And I spoke not of wealth you wish to take
"Little daughter, wait; indeed, I will not do it."
With the intention of reprieve, I am not a doer of that
