God bless the band you encountered,

    O Ibn al-Huqayq, and you, O Ibn al-Ashraf.

They travel by night toward you with light, gleaming swords,

Exultant, like lions in a thickly wooded lair,

Until they reached you at home in your own lands,

Then made you drink death with gleaming blades [qarqaf, “wine,” is unclear here].

Clear-sighted in supporting their Prophet’s faith,

    Deeming every crushing ordeal insignificant.
