Al-ʿAwwām reviled me only because he is

A brother to fish in the sea, a neighbor to crocodiles.

لَئيمٌ دَنِيٌّ فاحِشٌ وَاِبنُ فاحِشٍ

لَئيمٌ دَنِيٌّ فاحِشٌ وَاِبنُ فاحِشٍ

لَئيمُ العُروقِ أَصلُهُ مُتَنازِحُ

لَئيمُ العُروقِ أَصلُهُ مُتَنازِحُ

Base, lowly, foul-mouthed, and the son of a foul-mouthed man,

Ignoble in his roots, his ancestry far-flung.

لَهُ خَمرَةٌ في بَيتِهِ وَجُرَيرَةٌ

لَهُ خَمرَةٌ في بَيتِهِ وَجُرَيرَةٌ

يُبَيِّعُ فيها فَهوَ نَشوانُ سالِحُ

يُبَيِّعُ فيها فَهوَ نَشوانُ سالِحُ

He has wine in his house and a little jar;

He sells wine from it, and so is drunk and shitting.
