أَبلِغ مُعاوِيَةَ اِبنَ حَربٍ مَألُكاً

أَبلِغ مُعاوِيَةَ اِبنَ حَربٍ مَألُكاً

وَلِكُلِّ أَمرٍ يُستَرادُ قَرارُ

وَلِكُلِّ أَمرٍ يُستَرادُ قَرارُ

Deliver a message to Muʿāwiya, son of Ḥarb:

Convey to Muawiyah son of Harb, a king

and every matter pursued has a settled outcome.

And for every matter, a decision is sought

لا تَقبَلَنَّ دَنِيَّةً أَعطَيتُها

لا تَقبَلَنَّ دَنِيَّةً أَعطَيتُها

أَبَداً وَلَمّا تَألَمِ الأَنصارُ

أَبَداً وَلَمّا تَألَمِ الأَنصارُ

Do not accept a humiliating concession that I have offered,

Do not accept the lowliness I have given

ever, while the Anṣār have not yet suffered,

Never and do not let the Ansar suffer

حَتّى تُبارَ قَبيلَةٌ بِقَبيلَةٍ

حَتّى تُبارَ قَبيلَةٌ بِقَبيلَةٍ

قَوَداً وَتُخرَبَ بِالدِيارِ دِيارُ

قَوَداً وَتُخرَبَ بِالدِيارِ دِيارُ

until a tribe is annihilated in return for a tribe,

Until a tribe fights with another tribe

in blood-requital, and dwellings are laid waste for dwellings,

As firewood, and homes are destroyed in the lands

وَتَجيءَ مِن نَقبِ الحِجازِ كَتيبَةٌ

وَتَجيءَ مِن نَقبِ الحِجازِ كَتيبَةٌ

وَتَسيلَ بِالمُستَلئِمينَ صِرارُ

وَتَسيلَ بِالمُستَلئِمينَ صِرارُ

and a battalion comes from the pass of the Ḥijāz,

And a battalion comes from the pass of Hejaz

and Ṣirār flows with armor-clad men.

And the swords of the brave flow with blood
