إِنif يَأخُذِtakes اللَهُGod مِنfrom عَينَيَّmy two eyes نورَهُماtheir light
فَفيthen in لِسانيmy tongue وَقَلبيand my heart مِنهُماfrom them both نورُlight
If God takes from my eyes their light,
If God takes the light from my eyes
Then in my tongue and heart is light from them both.
There's still in my heart and tongue some light
قَلبٌa heart ذَكِيٌّkeen وَعَقلٌand a mind غَرُnot (apparently intended as غير) ذيpossessing دَخَلٍguile

A keen heart, and a mind free of guile,
A wise heart, an unblemished mind
And in my mouth is a keen blade, patterned like a sword.
And in my mouth a sharpened sword
