إِنَّindeed اِبنَthe son of جَفنَةَJafnah مِنof بَقِيَّةِthe remnant of مَعشَرٍa people
لَمdid not يَغذُهُمrear them آباؤُهُمtheir fathers بِاللَومِwith reproach
Indeed, the son of Jafnah is of the remnant of a people
Whose fathers did not rear them on reproach.
وَأَتَيتُهُand I came to him يَوماًone day فَقَرَّبَso he brought near مَجلِسيmy seat

كَلّاcertainly not وَلاand not مُتَنَصِّراًhaving embraced Christianity بِالرومِamong the Romans

يُعطيhe gives الجَزيلَthe lavish gift وَلاand not يَراهُhe regards it عِندَهُin his estimation
إِلّاexcept كَبَعضِlike part of عَطِيَّةِthe gift of المَذمومِthe blameworthy man
He gives lavishly, yet to him his gift seems
No more than part of a blameworthy man's gift.
