أَوحَشَhas grown desolate الجُنبُذانَal-Junbudhan فَالدَيرُand the monastery مِنهاwithout her
فَقُراهاand her villages فَالمَنزِلُand the dwelling المَحظورُforbidden
Al-Junbudhan and the monastery lie desolate without her,
The wilderness has made the monastery dreary
as do her villages and the forbidden dwelling.
So it is poor, and the dwelling forbidden
أَسكُنُI dwell البَدوَthe open country ماas long as أَقَمتِyou stay بِبَدوٍin open country
فَإِذاand when ماemphatic particle حَضَرتِyou came to town طابَbecame pleasant الحُضورُtown life
I dwell in the open country as long as you dwell there;
I dwell in the desert as long as you stay in the desert
and when you come to town, town life becomes sweet.
So when you come, the presence is pleasant
أَيُّwhat عَيشٍlife أَلَذُّهُI relish it لَستِyou are not فيهِin it

What life can I relish when you are not in it?
What is the sweetest life in which you are not
Or can any blessing and joy be seen in it?
Or is there in it bliss and happiness
