أَرونيshow me سُعوداًmen named Saʿd كَالسُعودِlike the men named Saʿd الَّتيwho سَمَتrose to eminence
أَروني سُعوداً كَالسُعودِ الَّتي سَمَت
بِمَكَّةَin Mecca مِنfrom أَولادِdescendants عَمرِʿAmr اِبنِson of عامِرِʿĀmir
بِمَكَّةَ مِن أَولادِ عَمرِ اِبنِ عامِرِ
Show me Saʿds like the Saʿds who rose to eminence
Show me glory like the glory that soared
In Mecca, from the descendants of ʿAmr ibn ʿĀmir.
In Mecca from the sons of Omar son of Aamir
أَقامواthey raised عَمودَthe pillar الدينِof religion حَتّىuntil تَمَكَّنَتbecame firmly established
أَقاموا عَمودَ الدينِ حَتّى تَمَكَّنَت
قَواعِدُهُits foundations بِالمُرهَفاتِwith the keen-edged swords البَواتِرِthe cleaving ones
قَواعِدُهُ بِالمُرهَفاتِ البَواتِرِ
They raised the pillar of religion until firmly established
They erected the pillar of faith until its foundations
Were its foundations, through keen, cleaving swords.
Were firmly anchored by illustrious deeds
هُمُthey عَقَدواmade a covenant لِلَّهِto God ثُمَّthen وَفَواfulfilled بِهِwith it
هُمُ عَقَدوا لِلَّهِ ثُمَّ وَفَوا بِهِ
بِماin what ضاقَfell short عَنهُof it كُلُّevery بادِnomad وَحاضِرِand townsman
بِما ضاقَ عَنهُ كُلُّ بادِ وَحاضِرِ
They made a covenant with God, then fulfilled it
They made a pact with God which they kept
In what lay beyond the power of every nomad and townsman.
With what makes every mortal and witness too narrow
