Indeed, Qurayza met what brought them grief,
Qurayza met what they did not expect,
and found no helper against humiliation.
And found no helper against humiliation.
أَصابَهُمُbefell them بَلاءٌa calamity كانَwas فيهِin it
شَوىًa trifle ماwhat قَدalready أَصابَbefell بَنيthe sons of النَضيرِal-Nadir
A calamity befell them, beside which
A calamity befell them, in which
what had befallen Banu al-Nadir was a trifle,
The fate of Banu Nadir was repeated.

رَسولُthe Messenger of اللَهِGod كَالقَمَرِlike the moon المُنيرِradiant
on the morning he came to them, walking toward them—
In the morning he came walking towards them,
God's Messenger, like the radiant moon.
The Messenger of Allah, like the shining moon.
لَهُhe had خَيلٌhorses مُجَنَّبَةٌranged alongside تَعادىracing
بِفُرسانٍwith riders عَلَيهاupon them كَالصُقورِlike falcons
He had horses ranged alongside, racing,
He had cavalry, galloping,
with riders upon them like falcons.
With horsemen on them like hawks.
تَرَكناهُمwe left them وَماand not ظَفِرواgained بِشَيءٍanything

We left them, and they had gained nothing,
We left them and they gained nothing,
their blood upon them like perfume.
Their blood upon them like perfume.
فَهُمso they صَرعىslain تَحومُcircle الطَيرُthe birds فيهِمamong them
كَذاكَthus يُدانُis repaid ذوone given to الفَنَدِfalsehood الخَفورِtreacherous
So they lie slain, birds circling among them.
So they lay dead with birds hovering over them -
Thus is the treacherous liar repaid.
Thus is judged the shameless traitor.

So follow it with the like, as counsel to Quraysh,
So convey a similar advice to Quraysh,
from the All-Merciful, if they accept my warning.
From the Merciful, if they accept my warning.
