And her hoof in every thicket seems
And her gait crushes with each supple stride
Like a sāʿ measure used by a healthy, penniless man,
A just, exacting measure to pow’r and pride—

With fleshless knuckles, his origins in Thaqif—
A man of Thaqif, ignoble born a slave,
A slave, yet he claims descent from Yaqdim.
Who vaunts the glory that he cannot have.
