Beneath your rule, beneath your governance

You are destined for eminence

بِالأَزهَرِat al-Azhar المَعمورِthe flourishing قَدindeed
نَشَأتُarose جِواريthe vessels of يُمنَthe blessedness of سَعدِكَyour good fortune
At flourishing al-Azhar, indeed,
In the thriving Azhar I grew up
the vessels of your blessed fortune arose,
Under the auspices of your felicity
وَأَتَتand they came لَناto us مَشحونَةًladen
بِنَفائِسَwith treasures مِنfrom صُنعِthe making of رُشدِكَyour sound judgment
and came to us laden
And there came to us, fully loaded
with treasures fashioned by your sound judgment.
With the finest works of your wisdom
مِنfrom بَحرِthe sea of فِكرِكَyour thought أَخرَجَتwere brought forth
وَتَنَظَّمَتand were strung together بِجَميلِthrough the beauty of سَردِكَyour narration
From the sea of your thought they were brought forth
From the ocean of your thoughts you brought forth
and strung together through your beautiful narration.
Arranged with the beauty of your composition
وَتَقَلَّدتَand donned أَعناقَناour necks
أَطواقَهاtheir necklaces مِنfrom نَظمِthe stringing of عِقدِكَyour necklace
And our necks wore
And adorned our necks with necklaces
their necklaces, from the stringing of your necklace.
Woven by the string of your verses
فَكَأَنَّso it was as though لُطفِكَyour grace زانَهاadorned them
وَكَأَنَّهاand as though they التَحَفَتwrapped themselves بِبَردِكَin your mantle
So it was as though your grace had adorned them,
As if your kindness had decorated them
and as though they had wrapped themselves in your mantle.
As if they were refined by your touch

وَيوثِقُand bind firmly الذِكرىremembrance بِعَهدِكَto your pledge
So may God preserve the bearer of radiance
So God preserve that brilliance
and bind remembrance firmly to your pledge.
And fortify the bond through your promise
