Why do I see the bough of joy

    swaying and bending in delight?

And it has drawn near the foremost of peers,

    bringing him freshly gathered blossoms:

    Fahmi Sulayman, our son,

    who stores up noble virtues.

And the herald of his good fortune is here,

hastening to him and never flagging.

When I myself learned of it,

by God, it truly delighted me,

    and gladness, too, filled us,

until the ailing heart was healed.

For God doubled our good fortune

with a boy who builds toward glory,

    and named him Ali, proclaiming

that inheritance has not died out:

    whether honor or wealth

in his grandfather—may he enjoy it!

And so I spoke, making known

a time that had gladdened me through him:

Through his affection there lives on

    his grandfather's radiant memory.

So, for His Honor, the wished-for son-in-law,

and for his family, happy fortune.

As for the brother, our dear one,

    he gathers every delight.

May God preserve them for us,

and exalt them and gladden me.
