ياO جاكَJack قُلsay قَدindeed وَفىkept faith زَمانيmy time
يا جاكَ قُل قَد وَفى زَماني
وَماand not وَفىkept faith مُسعِداًbringing happiness لِغَيريto anyone other than me
وَما وَفى مُسعِداً لِغَيري
O Jack, say: my time has indeed kept faith.
O Jack, say my time has passed
And it has not kept faith by bringing joy to anyone else.
And brought happiness to none but me
وَالصَفوُand serenity قَدindeed حَلَّsettled فيin مَكانيmy place
وَالصَفوُ قَد حَلَّ في مَكاني
وَغَرَّدَand warbled اليَومَtoday صَوتُthe voice طَيريof my bird
وَغَرَّدَ اليَومَ صَوتُ طَيري
And serenity has indeed settled in my dwelling.
Serenity has come to my place
And today my bird's voice has warbled.
And today my bird sings
وَسالِمٌand Salim عِندَat ماthe time that أَتانيhe came to me
وَسالِمٌ عِندَ ما أَتاني
أَرخَتI recorded the date عُشَّlive سالِماًsafe بِخَيرِin well-being
أَرخَت عُشَّ سالِماً بِخَيرِ
And when Salim came to me,
When death comes, I'll welcome it
I recorded the date: “Live safe and well.”
