دَعونيleave me وَشَأنيand my affairs وَالزَمانَand time وَأَهلَهُand its people
دَعوني وَشَأني وَالزَمانَ وَأَهلَهُ
فَأَنّيfor I بِهِمabout them أَدريI know بِغَيرِwithout تَغاليexaggeration
فَأَنّي بِهِم أَدري بِغَيرِ تَغالي
Leave me to my affairs, to time and its people.
Leave me be, and leave time and its people
For I know them, without exaggeration.
For I know them without pretense
وَلاand do not تَسأَلواask عَمَّنabout whom أَعدَنَI consider غالِياًdear
وَلا تَسأَلوا عَمَّن أَعدَنَ غالِياً
فَماfor there is not ثَمَّthere عِنديto me غَيرَother than بُطرُسBoutros غاليGhali
فَما ثَمَّ عِندي غَيرَ بُطرُس غالي
And do not ask whom I consider dear,
And ask not who I hold most dear
For to me there is none but Boutros Ghali.
For none is dearer to me than Saint Peter
