عَلى طَرفي نَقيضَ مُستَمِرِّ
I see myself, when it comes to drinking strong wine,
I see myself drinking wine
at the two poles of an unending contradiction:

فَعِنديfor I have مانِعٌa deterrent خَوفيmy fear وَضَعفيand my weakness
فَعِندي مانِعٌ خَوفي وَضَعفي
وَعِندَand with مُقتَضٍa motive هَمّيmy sorrow وَفِكريand my thoughts
وَعِندَ مُقتَضٍ هَمّي وَفِكري
for I have a deterrent—my fear and my weakness—
My fear and frailty prevent me
and a motive—my sorrow and my thoughts.
While my worries and thoughts compel me
