رَأىhe saw فَحَبَّthen he loved فَرامَthen he sought الوَصلَunion فَاِمتَنِعواbut they refused
رَأى فَحَبَّ فَرامَ الوَصلَ فَاِمتَنِعوا
فَهامَthen he became lovesick عِشقاًwith passionate love فاضَنيso was worn down جِسمُهُhis body فَنِضاso he wasted away
فَهامَ عِشقاً فاضَني جِسمُهُ فَنِضا
He saw, then loved, then sought union, but they refused.
He saw, so loved, and sought to be joined, but they refused.
Then he was consumed by passion; his body was worn down, and he wasted away.
So he pined in passion, till his body grew thin and wan.
وَحاوِلِand he tried القُربَcloseness فَاِستَعصَتbut proved unattainable مَطالِبُهُhis wishes
وَحاوِلِ القُربَ فَاِستَعصَت مَطالِبُهُ
فَسامَthen he sought صَبراًpatience فاعيbut proved too difficult نَيلَهُattaining it فَقَضاso he died
فَسامَ صَبراً فاعي نَيلَهُ فَقَضا
And he tried to draw near, but his wishes proved unattainable.
He tried to draw near, but his efforts went in vain.
Then he sought patience, but could not attain it, and so he died.
So he bore it with patience, sure that Fate would decide.
