قالوا تَعَدَّيتَ الحُدودَ بِنَظرَةٍ

قالوا تَعَدَّيتَ الحُدودَ بِنَظرَةٍ

قَد خَمَشَت وَردَ الخُدودِ النادي

قَد خَمَشَت وَردَ الخُدودِ النادي

They said, “You overstepped the bounds with a glance

That scratched the dewy roses of the cheeks.”

قُلتُ اِنظُر قَلبي وَوَقِّع لِحاظَهُ

قُلتُ اِنظُر قَلبي وَوَقِّع لِحاظَهُ

وَتَحَقَّقوا مَن كانَ مِنّا البادي

وَتَحَقَّقوا مَن كانَ مِنّا البادي

I said, “Look at my heart and the impact of his glances,

And ascertain which of us was the first to begin.”
