قالَ العَذولُ قَد اِعتَدَيتَ بِنَظرَةٍ

قَد خَمَشَت وَردَ الخُدودِ النادي

قَد خَمَشَت وَردَ الخُدودِ النادي

The reprover said, “You have transgressed with a glance

That scratched the dewy roses of the cheeks.”

قُلتُ اِكتَشِف قَلبي وَوَقعَ سِهامِهِ

قُلتُ اِكتَشِف قَلبي وَوَقعَ سِهامِهِ

وَاِعذُر فَإِنَّ اللَحظَ كانَ البادي

وَاِعذُر فَإِنَّ اللَحظَ كانَ البادي

I said, “Examine my heart and the impact of its arrows,

And pardon me, for the glance was the first to strike.”
