يَأتي لَنا رَمَضانُ بِالشَيءِ الشَهي
Custom has us feast in Sha‘ban—before
It is the norm that we part ways before
Ramadan comes to us—on delectable fare.
Ramadan comes with its festive cheer

And likewise, when we saw our life
And so it was when we saw our lives
Little by little, still weakening, weakening,
Slowly dwindle away year after year

سَنَحَت لَنا الفُرصاتُ حَتّى نَنتَهي
We have taken to feasting on this world as in Sha‘ban whenever
We've been parting from this world bit by bit
Opportunities come our way, until we reach our end.
Whenever we got the chance, until we disappear

So curb your reproaches, O faultfinder, and leave us
So spare us your blame, reproacher, and leave us be
To ourselves; look to your own affairs and amuse yourself.
Consider your state, and don't interfere
