أَلقىhe laid يَدَيهِhis two hands عَلىupon صَدريmy chest فَقُلتُso I said لَهُto him
هُنhere الفُؤادِthe heart الَّذيthat لاnot زِلتَyou have ceased تَصرَعُهُyou lay it low
He laid his hands upon my chest, so I said to him:
Here is the heart that you never cease to lay low.
وَحينَand when مَسَّتهُtouched it أَيديكَyour hands الحِسانِthe beautiful فَقَدthen indeed
أَبرَأَتhealed مِنّيwithin me مَحلاًa place أَنتَyou موجِعُهُcausing it pain
And when your lovely hands touched it, they indeed
healed a place within me that you yourself make sore.
فَقالَso he said لاdo not تَطمَعَنever hope عَينايَmy two eyes قَدindeed رُمتاboth shot

He said: Do not hope; my eyes have shot
arrows at it, and its place is no secret to you.
وَمالَand he leaned قَدىunclear; possibly 'my stature' فَجارَهاunclear; possibly 'then he wronged her' وَاِتَّبَعاand the two followed

And he leaned—[the intervening wording is unclear]—and the two followed
an arrow; so I wished to know where it had struck.
