So they might ransom you against unforeseen evil.

And the first of them to be led to slaughter—
And the first of them driven to slaughter—
in him we perceived a necklace at the throat.
On him we glimpsed a necklace at the throat.

save an aggressive transgressor or a deluded envier.
Except an oppressive aggressor or a foolish envier.

Not as the man said who dared speak falsely,
Not as one who dared falsehood claimed,
and, though he knew better, denied that it was the sun.
Though he knew full well that he was denying the sun.

They are nothing but cattle, as you see;
They are only, as you see, livestock;
indeed, they are further astray, and their destination is the Last Gathering.
They have led others astray; their destination is slaughter.

but the aggressors’ purpose has now become clear.
And the oppressors' crushing has been decreed.

you are too exalted to be blemished, and greater still.
You are above being disgraced, and greater than that.

wherever you are, praiseworthy deeds themselves give thanks.
Wherever I am, and praiseworthy deeds give thanks.

As for the one who rose barking falsehood and lies,
And the one who rose to bark falsehood deceitfully—
leave him to howl; dogs are best left alone.
Let him howl, for a dog is best left alone.

If we threw a pebble at every dog,
stone would have become like gold—and rarer still.
Stone would become as rare as gold, and rarer still.

So hold fast to strength, and disregard their harm,
and trust in Him who singled you out for victory.
And trust in Him who favored you with victory.

And behold the feast, how it came to you in splendor,
while bitterness came to them from the very quarter that favored you.
And for them, where it favored you, came gloom.

عيدُ أَضحى لِأَحمَدَ فيهِ كِبرُ
For this I dated it with “Bahāʾ”—splendor:
And so I recorded its date with splendor:
“A Feast of Sacrifice wherein Ahmad attained greatness.”
“A Feast of Sacrifice in which Ahmad has pride.”

And your gracious affection is reward enough for me,
and you know well my fidelity to its goodness.
And you know well the goodness of my loyalty.

good fortune is but a signet upon your little finger.
Good fortune is but a ring on the little finger.
