اِسمَعlisten مَقالَthe words of خَبيرٍan experienced man
اِسمَع مَقالَ خَبيرٍ
فيin الصِدقِtruthfulness يُؤَثِّرُleaves a mark فودُهُhis temple
في الصِدقِ يُؤَثِّرُ فودُهُ
Listen to the words of an experienced man.
In truthfulness, his temple leaves its mark.
وَفيand in اِختِيارِchoosing ذَويهِhis people
وَفي اِختِيارِ ذَويهِ
قَدِindeed أَشغَلَhas kept busy الشَيبَgray hair فودُهُhis temple
قَدِ أَشغَلَ الشَيبَ فودُهُ
And in choosing his people,
his temple has indeed kept gray hair busy.
فيamong الناسِpeople لَمnot يَبقَremains إِلّاexcept
في الناسِ لَم يَبقَ إِلّا
رَبِّmaster of الصَداقَةِfriendship فودُهُhis temple
رَبِّ الصَداقَةِ فودُهُ
Among people, none remains except
the master of friendship—his temple.
فَالعِلمُfor knowledge بَيتٌa house رَفيعٌlofty
فَالعِلمُ بَيتٌ رَفيعٌ
هُوَit المُشَيَّدُbuilt high فودُهُits side
هُوَ المُشَيَّدُ فودُهُ
For knowledge is a lofty house;
it is the one whose side is built high.
