خَليلُ العُلا خَيّاط باشا الَّذي لَهُ

خَليلُ العُلا خَيّاط باشا الَّذي لَهُ

تَتابَعَ غَيثَ الفَضلِ مِن فَيضِ مَنانِ

تَتابَعَ غَيثَ الفَضلِ مِن فَيضِ مَنانِ

Khalil Khayyat Pasha of lofty glory, for whom

Showers of favor followed in succession from a bountiful giver’s abundance.

وَقامَت لَهُ الدُنيا عَلى ساقِ عِزِّها

وَقامَت لَهُ الدُنيا عَلى ساقِ عِزِّها

تَبَجَّلَ مِن شانِ وَتَكَبَّت مِن شاني

تَبَجَّلَ مِن شانِ وَتَكَبَّت مِن شاني

And the world rose for him, firm-footed in its glory,

Exalted in standing, and abased by my detractor [wording uncertain].

إِلَيهِ أَميرُ المُؤمِنينَ بِفَضلِهِ

إِلَيهِ أَميرُ المُؤمِنينَ بِفَضلِهِ

وَإِنعامُهُ ما اِفتَرَّ يولي بِإِحسانِ

وَإِنعامُهُ ما اِفتَرَّ يولي بِإِحسانِ

Upon him the Commander of the Faithful, with his favor

And his bounty, unceasingly bestows kindness.

وَحَيثُ رَأى مِنهُ التَصَدُّرَ لِلوَلا

وَحَيثُ رَأى مِنهُ التَصَدُّرَ لِلوَلا

بِأَرحَبِ صَدرٍ لا يُقاسُ بِهِ ثاني

بِأَرحَبِ صَدرٍ لا يُقاسُ بِهِ ثاني

And when he saw him foremost in loyalty,

With the broadest breast, unmatched by any other,

بِأَوَّلِ نيشانِ مَجيدٌ أَتاحَهُ

بِأَوَّلِ نيشانِ مَجيدٌ أَتاحَهُ

لِتَزدانَ عَلياهُ بِكَوكَبِ سُلطانِ

لِتَزدانَ عَلياهُ بِكَوكَبِ سُلطانِ

Majid bestowed upon him the foremost decoration,

To adorn his exalted station with a sovereign’s star.

وَقالَ بِمَجدِ المُلكِ يَثني مُؤَرِّخاً

وَقالَ بِمَجدِ المُلكِ يَثني مُؤَرِّخاً

بِأَكرَمِ صَدرٍ لاحَ أَفخَرَ نيشاني

بِأَكرَمِ صَدرٍ لاحَ أَفخَرَ نيشاني

And, praising the glory of kingship, he spoke in a chronogram:

“On the noblest breast shone my most splendid decoration.”
