وَلَمّاand when جَلَسناwe sat down لِلشَرابِto drink وَمُنيَتيand my heart's desire
وَلَمّا جَلَسنا لِلشَرابِ وَمُنيَتي
يَمُرُّhe passes عَلَيناamong us بِالطِلاwith wine وَيدورُand circles round
يَمُرُّ عَلَينا بِالطِلا وَيدورُ
And when we sat down to drink, while my heart's desire
When we sat to drink and make merry
Was passing among us with wine and circling round,
The full moon passed over us, revolving,
تَصَوَّرتُهُI pictured him البَدرَthe full moon المُنيرَthe shining وَأَنَّناand that we
تَصَوَّرتُهُ البَدرَ المُنيرَ وَأَنَّنا
بُروجٌsigns of the zodiac بِهاthrough them يَجتازُhe passes ثُمَّthen يَسيرُhe moves on
بُروجٌ بِها يَجتازُ ثُمَّ يَسيرُ
I pictured him as the shining full moon, and us
I fancied it the shining full moon, and we
As signs of the zodiac through which he passes, then moves on.
Constellations through which it journeys, then moves on.
