    The beloved has returned—welcome

to my master and my imam!

    A thousand welcomes and greetings

    to the blessing of Islam!

    O mouth, hasten and kiss

the places where his feet have trodden.

And leave us some of their earth,

    a remedy for bleeding eyes.

Separation has left its mark on them

    and bowed the bodies.

And if he returns—oh, our joy!—

then that is a festival for all humankind.

And God is ever his protector

    in travel and in residence.

    O my Lord, grant him

the full moon of serenity in its fullness,

    without diminution or blemish,

    but with sublime perfection.

And guard with Your eye a servant

    of the Benefactor, the All-Knowing,

    and likewise, sisters

    of his, endowed with modesty,

as long as a breeze stirs a branch

and rain pours from the clouds.
