حُسنٌ لِنُطقِكَ بادِئاً وَمُجاوِباً

حُسنٌ لِنُطقِكَ بادِئاً وَمُجاوِباً

وَلِكُلِّ فَظٍّ في المَقالِ تَمَلَّقِ

وَلِكُلِّ فَظٍّ في المَقالِ تَمَلَّقِ

Grace befits your speech, whether you begin or reply.

Beautiful is your speech, both beginning and answering,

And flatter everyone who is harsh in speech.

And flattering in every rude expression in discourse,

وَاِحذَر بَلاءً يَبتَليكَ بِلَفظَةٍ

وَاِحذَر بَلاءً يَبتَليكَ بِلَفظَةٍ

إِنَّ البَلاءَ موكَلٌ بِالمَنطِقِ

إِنَّ البَلاءَ موكَلٌ بِالمَنطِقِ

And beware of misfortune that afflicts you through a word.

And beware an affliction that tries you with a word,

Indeed, misfortune is bound to speech.

Indeed affliction is entrusted with speech
