I see the bough of joy has bent,

And the turtledove of bliss is more eloquent in its gladness.

And his servant, Abduh al-Hamuli, congratulated his lord,

A brother of solace, who gladdens the heart.

And Time came to him apologizing,

And hopes that he will forgive and speak plainly.

And made amends for its wrongs with the finest son,

Like the full moon—nay, sweeter and more charming.

And announced that he would attain success,

And throughout a long life he would keep rejoicing.

So he named him Muhammad, seeking

The blessing of his namesake, the preeminent Guide.

And the bearer of glad tidings came to him and said, “Record the date:

Muhammad will live, and you will see him prosper.”
