تُسائِلُني القَرابَةَ أَم وِدادَ

تُسائِلُني القَرابَةَ أَم وِدادَ

تَراهُ مِنَ الأَحِبَّةِ وَالصَحابَةِ

تَراهُ مِنَ الأَحِبَّةِ وَالصَحابَةِ

You ask me: is it kinship or affection

You ask me, is it kinship or affection?

that you see among loved ones and companions?

Do you see it as love and companionship?

فَقُلتُ القُربَ مُحتاجٌ لِوُدٍّ

فَقُلتُ القُربَ مُحتاجٌ لِوُدٍّ

وَذَلِكَ غَيرَ مُحتاجٍ قَرابَةِ

وَذَلِكَ غَيرَ مُحتاجٍ قَرابَةِ

So I said: closeness needs affection,

I said, kinship needs affection

and affection has no need of kinship.

While the other needs no relation
