لَوif كُنتَyou were تُبصِرُهاyou see her وَقَدand already
لَو كُنتَ تُبصِرُها وَقَد
وَقَفتُI stood لِبَثّيto my lament تَسمَعُshe listens
وَقَفتُ لِبَثّي تَسمَعُ
If you could see her, while
If you had seen her standing still
I stood, with her listening to my lament,
to hear my lament,
لَحَسِبتُهاI would have thought her شَمسَsun الأَصيthe late afternoon (word begins here)
لَحَسِبتُها شَمسَ الأَصي
لِ(completes 'late afternoon') وَخِلتُand I imagined أَنّيthat I يوشَعُJoshua
لِ وَخِلتُ أَنّي يوشَعُ
I would have thought her the late-afternoon sun,
you'd think my sun had set at noon
and imagined that I was Joshua.
and Joshua made the sun stand still
