بداهيةٍ غرّاء باد حجولُها
Indeed, Masʿūd, kinsman of the Azd, came at daybreak
Indeed, Masʿūd, a kinsman of al-Azd, came early one morning,
with a conspicuous, white-blazed calamity, its fetlock markings plain to see.
With a bright-faced calamity, its anklets plainly showing,
منof الشرevil ظلremained الناسthe people فيهاin it كأنهمas though they
من الشر ظل الناس فيها كأنهم
وقدand indeed جاءcame بالأخبارwith the news منone who لاdoes not يحيلهاdistort it
وقد جاء بالأخبار من لا يحيلها
From its evil, the people remained in its grip as though they—
Of evil, amid which the people remained as though they...
and one who does not falsify the news has come bearing it.
And the news had indeed been brought by one who does not distort it.
