ألا آذِناً شمّاء بالبين إنه
أبيrefused أودُcrookedness الشماءِof Shammāʾ أنto يتقَوّماbe straightened
أبي أودُ الشماءِ أن يتقَوّما
Come, you two, tell Shammāʾ of the parting, for
O fragrant breeze of separation, he
Shammāʾ's crookedness refuses to be straightened.
Would have me believe the heavens might fall asunder
