إذا فارقت ثعلبة بن سعد

إذا فارقت ثعلبة بن سعد

وإخوتهم نسبت إلى لؤيّ

وإخوتهم نسبت إلى لؤيّ

When I leave Thaʿlabah ibn Saʿd

When Tha'labah bin Sa'd and his brothers parted

and their brothers, I trace my lineage to Luʾayy—

I ascribe to them a noble descent, not deceitful

إلى نسب كريم غير دغل

إلى نسب كريم غير دغل

وحي من كارم كل حيّ

وحي من كارم كل حيّ

to a noble lineage, free of taint,

A revelation from the Bounteous to every living soul

and the clan of one who rivaled every clan in nobility.

And if my origin is from them, so are my kinsmen

وإن يك منهم أصلي فمنهم

وإن يك منهم أصلي فمنهم

قرابين الإله بني قصيّ

قرابين الإله بني قصيّ

And if my origin is among them, then among them are

The sacrificial offerings to God, the sons of Qusayy

God’s intimates, the sons of Quṣayy.
