Know—may you be spared curses—that I shall assassinate
I learned, father, that you blamed me
Ibn Jaʿfar, today or sometime afterward.
For Akhlaad waking me when I was not asleep

O Khālid, you have roused me, though I was not asleep;
So do not feel secure from my vengeance
So never feel safe from my deadly attack, as long as time endures, and beware.
Beware the strikes of fate

غداة حراض مثل جنان عبقر
Do you taunt me if you have defeated horsemen of ours,
You threatened me, if I get horsemen from us
On the morning of Ḥurāḍ—men like the jinn of ʿAbqar?
Tomorrow morning, vigorous like the fragrant gardens

ومن لا يق الله الحوادث يعثر
Treacherous fate caught them unawares;
Time has weakened them with decay
And whoever God does not protect from calamities stumbles.
He who does not fear God, stumbles into tribulations

So perhaps one day you will stagger beneath a blow
So your act one day will be to succumb to a strike
By the hand of a youth of his people, no short, stocky fellow,
By the palm of a young man not noble among his people

With which he will humble Hawāzin's pride; and the wish is
Who will defeat Honazan and al-Munya
To meet Abū Jazʾ with a gleaming, severing sword.
In revenge for my father's mutilated white hand
