I love perfection in every soul,

And revere men of every race.

And when emotions surge within my soul,

I turn to my inkwell and my page.

O conqueror of Jerusalem, God has indeed enfolded you

In a holy spirit from the Guardian.

Yours is resolve from destiny, and renown

Shining through time with a sun's radiance.

You came to review the ranks in celebration,

Not for war with a cannon or a shield.

O noblest of commanders in war, take your honored place

Above the land's eye and head.

    Its ancient history was glorious,

Like Egypt's, and like that of the Romans and Persians.

Then time took an ill-fated turn,

Overturning its lucky star most disastrously.

So we trod the ground barefoot,

Among the dust-covered hungry and the unkempt.

    وكذا الجهل والتعصب ينسي

    Few among us remember the truths;

And thus ignorance and fanaticism make one forget.

So make us happy, for we have suffered from ignorance,

All-enveloping as night's darkness, and from poverty and misery.

And open the way before us, for we

Have been afflicted by time with despair.

And remain, for we are more in need than you

Of a hand to build up the land, and a head.

And entrust rule to the honorable, for among us

Is a foul multitude steeped in caprice and error.

And urge us forward, for you are

The ablest in the world, beyond doubt.

    يثمر الحكم بين لين وبأس

    And treat us with compassion and with sternness;

Rule bears fruit between gentleness and sternness.

Long may you live for the land, O lord, and long may live

A nation favored with the grandest throne.

And may cooperation and sincerity endure between us,

    And affection, the sweetest planting.

Then, if the land could speak, it would say:

A thousandfold apart are my today and my yesterday!
