أَتاكَcame to you بيَwith me اللَّهُGod الَّذيwho فَوقَabove مَنthose whom تَرىyou see
أَتاكَ بيَ اللَّهُ الَّذي فَوقَ مَن تَرى
وَخَيرٌand goodness وَمَعروفٌand kindness عَليكَto you دَليلُa guide
وَخَيرٌ وَمَعروفٌ عَليكَ دَليلُ
God, who is above everyone you see, brought me to you,
God brought you to me, He who is above all we see
And goodness and kindness point the way to you,
Goodness and kindness are proof of your virtue
وَمَطويَةُand drawn-in الأَقرابِthe flanks أَماas for نَهارُهاher daytime
وَمَطويَةُ الأَقرابِ أَما نَهارُها

فَسَبتٌ وأَما لَيلها فَذَميلُ
And a lean-flanked she-camel—as for her day,
Though kin may turn their backs, their days barren
It is rest; and as for her night, it is an easy trot.
Their nights yet cherished, nurtured within
وَقطعيand my cutting through إِلَيكtoward you اللَّيلَthe night حِضنَيهits two flanks إِنَّنيindeed I

And my cutting through the night's two flanks to reach you—indeed, I
I cross the dark night to be at your side
Do so time and again when men are afraid.
When men retreat, I remain resolved
