شَهِدتُI bore witness بأَنَّto the fact that اللَّهَGod حَقcertain لِقاؤهmeeting Him
شَهِدتُ بأَنَّ اللَّهَ حَق لِقاؤه
وأَنَّand that الرَّبيعَal-Rabiʿ العامِريَّal-ʿAmiri رَقيعُa fool
وأَنَّ الرَّبيعَ العامِريَّ رَقيعُ
I bore witness that meeting God is certain,
I bear witness that God is true, meeting Him is real
and that al-Rabiʿ al-ʿAmiri is a fool.
And that the plentiful spring is barren land
أَقادَhe exacted retaliation لَناfor us كَلباًa dog بِكلبٍfor a dog وَلَمand did not يَدَعlet
أَقادَ لَنا كَلباً بِكلبٍ وَلَم يَدَع
دِماءَthe blood كِلابِdogs المُسلِمينَthe Muslims تَضيعُgo to waste
دِماءَ كِلابِ المُسلِمينَ تَضيعُ
He exacted retaliation for us—a dog for a dog—and did not let
It has set upon us dog against dog and left
the blood of the Muslims’ dogs go to waste.
