أَلا طَرَقَتْ خَيَاَلَةُ أُمِّ كِّرْزٍ

أَلا طَرَقَتْ خَيَاَلَةُ أُمِّ كِّرْزٍ

وأَصْحَابِي بِعْيْهَمَ مِنْ تَباَلهْ

وأَصْحَابِي بِعْيْهَمَ مِنْ تَباَلهْ

Lo, the apparition of Umm Kirz came by night,

while my companions were at ʿAyham in Tabālah.

فَباتَ الدَّمْعُ يُخْضِلُني كَأَنِّي

فَباتَ الدَّمْعُ يُخْضِلُني كَأَنِّي

تَقَيْتُ بِرَيْطَتِي غَرْبَيْ مَحَالهْ

تَقَيْتُ بِرَيْطَتِي غَرْبَيْ مَحَالهْ

So tears kept drenching me all night, as though I

had shielded myself with my mantle against two large bucketfuls drawn up by a pulley.
