What does Nobility think of that affection?
That affection, what is the view of the exalted one regarding it?
Glory's heart melted in fury at its blazing.
It melted the armor of glory, infuriated by its harshness

Foundations, whose builder used to build glory.
Foundations that pride was building its builder

Ailing with estrangement's wasting sickness, it has fallen ill
It became sick with estrangement's stinginess, it fell ill
With an illness in which Nobility's very soul has sickened.
With an illness that afflicted the soul of the exalted one within it

So, for God's sake, in preserving it, for indeed it
The heralds of its death have nearly risen throughout the world.
Nearly rose against the world and its minarets

من بعدِ ما كانَ تُصيبه ويصيبها
What excuse has one who turned from it while it was drawing near,
What is the excuse of one who turned away from it while it comes
After it used to reach him, and he used to reach it?
After what afflicted him and afflicted it?

والبِشرُ يقطُرُ زَهواً مِن نواحيها
I remember it clad in the splendors of his radiant brow,
My pact with it is that it wears the raiments of its pride
And gladness dripping proudly from its every side.
And good tidings drip from its edges

So marvel: what its fate has shown it is a wonder—
So wonder - and what an astonishment its time has been
He who once made it laugh now makes it weep.
One who used to make it laugh has now come to make it weep

And how, amid all that reproach, has it not recovered,
And how with all that reproach have I not been healed
When, in truth, a little of it used to heal it?
When some of the truth would heal it from him

An ailment born of estrangement—I have not ceased treating it
An illness of estrangement I have not ceased trying to cure
For that ailment, and giving it hope of recovery in my reproaches.
Both from it and by being cured through my reproach I wish it

Until I wearied, and it wearied of its own complaining.
Until I grew weary and it grew weary of my complaining

So excuse your brother when the cure grew wearisome, for indeed
Used up the medicine, yet its treatment has proved ineffective.
The medicine was exhausted and its remedy did not work

Ask a cloud of steady rain: whenever I sought rain from it, there flashed
Ask Dima whenever I petition her, her
Its lightning for me, and the mouths of its waterskins opened.
Lightning flashes for me and its seclusions melt away

What ails it? Its lightning's broken promise has become plain.
What is wrong with it that the lightning's betrayal in it
I seek protection for it with the God of creation, its Maker.
I seek protection for it from the God who originated it

So rise and repeat them, Abu al-Hadi, without delay—
So get up and restore it, Abu Al-Hadi, without delay
Noble deeds you displayed before today.
With generosity - you before today initiated it

May I never say, 'Hope and generosity have died,' so long as there stretch forth
If I said hope and generosity have died, the fingers
The fingers of your hand in this world for whoever looks to it in hope.
Of your palm in life have not extended for those who wish it
