The fine robes of the mistress of fragrance enfold

All you could wish of slenderness and dark-eyed beauty.

Beloved of gazes, she has had her eyes kohled

With the two charmers: magic and coquetry.

Indeed, he who fashioned her for my misery

Told her saliva, “Mingle with honey.”

How often she has made me sip her lips, saying,

“Is there any sin in the intoxicating power of saliva?”

Fair-skinned, she sends forth from her braids

Chains of sweet basil, like jet.

If her coal-black hair tells the night, “Grow dark,”

Her brow tells the dawn, “Shine forth.”

She sings, enchanting as she shifts

Her melody between ramal and hazaj.
