ياO خيرbest منthose who صنعdid الجميلَgood deeds
يا خير من صنع الجميلَ
لربِّهto his Lord متقرِّباseeking nearness
لربِّه متقرِّبا
O best of those who have done good,
O best of those who do good
seeking nearness to his Lord,
To get close to his Lord
وحناand showed tenderness علىtoward أبناءchildren of فاFatimah (first part)
وحنا على أبناء فا
طمةٍFatimah (completion) فكانso he became لهمto them أباa father
طمةٍ فكان لهم أبا
and shown tenderness to Fatimah’s children,
And being kind to the sons of
thus becoming a father to them,
Fatima, so he was a father to them
ورعىand upheld حقوقrights of المؤمنينَthe believers
ورعى حقوق المؤمنينَ
ترؤفاًout of compassion وتحدُّباand tender care
ترؤفاً وتحدُّبا
and upheld the rights of the believers
And he took care of the rights of the believers
with compassion and tender care.
With kindness and affection
قدindeed جئتَyou came فيin زمنa time of القطيestrangement (first part)
قد جئتَ في زمن القطي
عةestrangement (completion) واصلاًreaching out to منthose who أترباbecame poor
عة واصلاً من أتربا
You have indeed come in an age of estrangement,
You came in a time of hardship
reaching out to those reduced to poverty.
With noble roots
لحَظَlooked kindly upon الإلهGod بكthrough you الكراthe noble (first part)
لحَظَ الإله بك الكرا
مَthe noble (completion) فكنتso you became مُنهضone who raises up منthose who كباstumbled
مَ فكنت مُنهض من كبا
Through you, God looked kindly upon the noble,
God has favored you with generosity
so you raised up those who stumbled.
So you became a leader against fatigue
وحفظتَand you preserved ماءwater (figuratively, dignity) وجوههمtheir faces
وحفظتَ ماء وجوههم
عنfrom أنthat يُراقbe spilled ويسكباand be poured out
عن أن يُراق ويسكبا
And you preserved the water of their faces
And you preserved their dignity
from being spilled and poured away.
From being shed and poured
