ياO خيرَbest مَنthose who أعطىbestowed الجميلَkindness فيamong الورىhumankind
يا خيرَ مَن أعطى الجميلَ في الورى
تبرُّعاًfreely فيهin doing so وأوفىand most faithful مَنthose who وَعدpromised
تبرُّعاً فيه وأوفى مَن وَعد
O best of those who bestow kindness among humankind,
O best of those who gave kindness in creation
Giving freely, and most faithful of those who promise.
Freely and fulfilled every promise
ليfor me عدةٌa promise عندَكwith you ماذاwhat صنعتyou have done
لي عدةٌ عندَك ماذا صنعت
كأَنَّas though عنهاheedless of it طرفُthe eye ذِكراكَyour memory رقدfell asleep
كأَنَّ عنها طرفُ ذِكراكَ رقد
I have a promise from you—what have you done?
I have a promise from you, what have I done
It is as though your memory’s eye has fallen asleep, oblivious to it.
As if the mention of it has slipped your mind
