صِليgrant union قبلَbefore التفرّقparting والتنائيand growing far apart
Maiden of the tribe, enough of shunning me.
O maiden of the alley, your disdain is enough for me
Come to me before parting and growing far apart.
Pray before we part and go our separate ways

O you, slender at the girdle, how long must I thirst,
Bring your veil close to what I have brought close
when sipping your saliva is my thirst’s relief?
And your saliva is my drink when you moisten your mouth

So gently, daughter of the jealous man, gently,
Go easy, O daughter of fickleness, go easy
with one whose liver yearns for a meeting.
On one whose liver yearns for the meeting
صدودكِyour turning away فيin حشاهhis innermost being أَمضَّthe most agonizing داءٍillness

Your turning away is the sorest malady within him,
Your aloofness in its covering caused the worst pain
and union with you is the surest cure for him.
And your union is the best cure for him

So sleep has not stitched my eyes shut, in my longing
So the fates did not deprive my eyes of longing
to see your face, so beautiful in appearance.
To see your beautiful, serene face

Ah, by those racing toward the prayer ground,
By the one aiming for the mosque
like arrows in their swiftness,
Like arrows flying straight from the quiver

indeed, the hands of longing have turned me into
The hands of passion have tossed me around
one struck down among the gazelles’ glances.
Left lifeless between the glances of does
فكمand how many منهاamong them لهوتُI dallied بذاتwith a woman possessing خِدرٍa secluded chamber

How many a secluded maiden among them have I dallied with,
How many glances slipped into a drunken reverie
on whose cheek the water of modesty flows,
Wandering with shyness in her cheek

one who lets evening fall over morning,
Wearing a dark gown in the evening over a white dawn
and brings morning forth from evening,
And rising at dawn from the evening

slender of waist, delicate in her swaying,
Large-hipped, swaying as she walks
languid in her walk, playful in lovemaking.
Walking slowly, playful with her wrap
