I donned a fresh robe from Time,
I wore a tattered robe of time
and went away, stripped of it by its two hands.
And went about with its sleeves torn

وأصبح كلِّي له مقتلاً
فحيثُso wherever رمىit shot كانَit was سهماًan arrow مصيباhitting the mark
فحيثُ رمى كانَ سهماً مصيبا
And all of me became a mortal target for it;
So that all of me was exposed to it
so wherever it shot, its arrow struck true.
And wherever it cast, its arrow struck true

It struck me with a crushing calamity that saps strength,
It shot me with featherless arrows that sap strength
and said, 'Stand back! Guard yourself against calamities.'
And said: "Toward you do misfortunes incline"

Then have your way with whatever follows the mother of calamities,
So is your way, beyond all misfortune
branding my heart with an unfamiliar mark.
Leaving within my heart a strange brand

And a woman said, 'Death has struck
And a tale of one whom the doves have struck
someone other than you'—yet that one was my heart, struck down.
Except you - and so my heart was struck

For passion has filled my heart and purse

Does my soul hope, then—would that it
I contemplate my soul, wishing
had been struck by death's arrow—to find peace?
That it be struck by the arrow of perdition, so it heals

The hand of death harvested, a moist branch

Vanished at their setting one eternal night
