لقد رحلتْ عن ودِّنا فيه جفوةٌ

وبعد الجفا فيه يُراجعُ بالودِ
Estrangement has indeed departed from our affection for him,
She left against our affection, aloofness in her
and after coldness toward him, he is approached anew with affection.
After estrangement, she returns with affection
فنحنso we علىupon ماwhat كانَwas منof عهدthe covenant of حبِّهlove for him
فنحن على ما كانَ من عهد حبِّه

أقمنا ولم نعزمْ رحيلاً عن العهد
So we, true to the former covenant of love for him,
We have remained, as we were during the days of her love
have remained, never resolving to depart from that covenant.
Neither deciding to depart, nor to break our pact

Many a pitch-dark night have I spent sleepless for him,
Many a long night, sleepless I remained
while even the star's eye grew weary of wakefulness that night.
While the stars above me blinked and nodded

He spends the night with his heart free of longing,
With a heart devoid of lovers, he slept
and has not known the torment of longing that I bear.
Not knowing the love that was within me

And we were, whether our dwelling carried us far away or drew near,
When the house was spacious or confining
two true friends, unclouded by nearness or distance.
Side by side we were, never bothered by closeness or distance

And I pour upon the estrangement and aloofness
to him by qualities of his sweeter than honey.
Sweet memories of him, sweeter than honey

My two friends, today I have—if only you knew it—
My friend, if you only knew
a marvel of passion; hear what I reveal of it.
The strange passion within me, so listen to what I say

شواهدُ منهم بالقطيعة والودِّ
Have they not claimed that hearts, for their owners,
Did they not claim that hearts belong to their lovers
bear witness to their estrangement and affection?
As witnesses to separation and affection?

Then why does my heart keep love's knot tight
Why then does my heart firmly cling to the knot of passion
for one who has undone the tight knots of love's cord?
For one who has loosened the knot of passion?

Or have others found the same in their love?

Dwellings that make every lover of passion halt
and hold back the forelegs of swift-striding she-camels from their stride.
And restrain the hands of departing lovers

The sun rose in the west, a sign for us
so you said, 'It brings us glad tidings: the Mahdi has appeared!'
You gave us the good news - the Mahdi is revealed!

Who arose with the truth, guiding to righteousness

Bringing you a fragrance making you needless of gifts

With him God protected the Sunnah of his grandfather
and raised up every one of its fallen pillars.
And supported each of its pillars

With enlightened guidance he arose guiding

None of the virtuous scholars can match him

A youth who was beloved to hearts through his qualities
their fragrance keener than the scent of wormwood and laurel.
Whose brilliance was sharper than a sword or spear

He repeats what he has shown in generosity, unlike one
One who restores what he revealed in generosity, not like those
who, when he comes, does not repeat what he displays.
Who come but do not return to what they began
