أميرَ المؤمنين أغِث صريخاً
ألمَّcame near بجنبbeside قبركyour grave مُستغيثاseeking help
ألمَّ بجنب قبرك مُستغيثا
Commander of the Faithful, aid one crying for help,
O Commander of the Faithful, hear a cry,
who has come beside your grave, seeking aid.
Beside your grave an implorer has come,
أتاكcame to you يحثّurging on ناجيةَa swift one among المطاياthe riding camels
أتاك يحثّ ناجيةَ المطايا
وصَرفُand the misfortunes of الدهرtime يطلبهُpursues him حثيثاswiftly
وصَرفُ الدهر يطلبهُ حثيثا
He came to you, urging on a swift riding-camel,
Urging the mount to hasten its pace
while time’s misfortunes pursue him swiftly.
As fate relentlessly seeks him in haste
