By your glory, O you dearer to me than myself,

and your glory—I have kept no other beside it in reserve—

are you content that, upon the embers of affliction,

I am tossed about thus by the hands of my time?

Does it cast me out while you watch and turn a blind eye,

as though you see neither it nor me?

These are traits I have never known you to approve,

and when I called upon you, you were not remiss.

So choose either what draws me near, or

what removes my presence from my place.

For remaining there is within my power,

and I have no strength to journey away from it by night.
