فويلُ القريض لقد أصبحتْ
بهthrough it أغبياءfools الورىhumankind تدَّعيlay claim
به أغبياء الورى تدَّعي
So woe to poetry! Now
Woe to poetry! For through it
the fools of humankind lay claim to it.
The ignorant of the earth make claims -
بقيَّةُa remnant عارٍdisgrace دنيِّbase الهجاءsatire
بقيَّةُ عارٍ دنيِّ الهجاء
ترفَّعexalts itself عنabove قدرهاits station الأوضعthe most abject
ترفَّع عن قدرها الأوضع
A remnant of disgrace, base in satire,
Remnants of shame, base defamation -
exalts itself above its most abject station.
Rise above their rightful station.
