O men of the New World, pause a moment!

You have surpassed other men through miracles.

And you understood life's meaning, so you readied

perfection to counter every lack in it.

And you safeguarded minds, so you put restraints on

juice that some people deem lawful.

And you carefully valued each minute of life,

while others do not value whole generations.

How often they deferred every matter until tomorrow!

And whoever defers affairs seeks the impossible.

    You have challenged death until

    survival almost overcame extinction.

And you folded up the earth's leagues,

and walked upon the air with proud swagger.

Then you harnessed the winds and steered

their south wind and the north wherever you wished.

You saddle the air whenever you wish to travel,

while on earth some still tighten their saddles.

And you made the ether's waves a courier,

when you thought the lightning flashes sluggish.

Then you tried to converse with the star,

so you made the ray carry a message.

And Ford erased the very sign of walking, until

people began casting their sandals aside.

And you wrested from every handspan on the back of the

earth, or in its veiled belly, wealth.

And you raised in every land edifices

that butt the clouds, lofty and tall.

And you planted a lovely garden for learning,

spreading its shade above the world of humankind.

And you settled in our land, so we learned

how you nurture children among us.

And we saw how the girls are educated

with learning that adds to their beauty.

Would that I knew when I shall see Egypt's land,

under God's protection, bringing forth heroes,

and see its people rival you in knowledge,

in leaping toward the heights, and in striving.

We have shaken slumber off ourselves and rushed to seize

life's opportunities, and truly moved forward.

And we learned that a day's heedlessness

robs a person of years of effort.

So we cleaved a path toward life,

and found room despite the throng.

And we rose in the shade of Fuad's throne,

and raised a monument to his reign.

God has refused to let us live off

people as dependents, even when our means grow straitened.
