لَوif يَنظِمونَthey string اللَآليthe pearls مِثلَin the same way ماthat نُظِمَتwere strung or composed
لَو يَنظِمونَ اللَآلي مِثلَ ما نُظِمَت
مُذsince غِبتَyou departed عَنّاfrom us عُيونُgems; choicest works الفَضلِexcellence وَالأَدَبِand literature
مُذ غِبتَ عَنّا عُيونُ الفَضلِ وَالأَدَبِ
If they strung pearls as have been strung,
If they strung pearls like they strung poems
Since you left us, the gems of excellence and letters,
Since the eyes of virtue and refinement left us
لَأَقفَرَwould surely be bare الجيدُthe neck مِنof دُرٍّpearls يُحيطُencircle بِهِaround it
لَأَقفَرَ الجيدُ مِن دُرٍّ يُحيطُ بِهِ
وَالثَغرُand the mouth مِنof لُؤلُؤٍpearls وَالكَأسُand the cup مِنof حَبَبِbubbles
وَالثَغرُ مِن لُؤلُؤٍ وَالكَأسُ مِن حَبَبِ
The neck would be bare of the pearls encircling it,
The neck would be empty of surrounding pearls
And the mouth of pearls, and the cup of bubbles.
The lips empty of pearls and the cup empty of wine
