I praise God that you have survived for Egypt.

He who shot you has shot her in the heart.

I praise God that you have survived for Egypt.

She has none but you for a day of grave need.

I praise God that you have survived for Egypt.

And He who protected you protected her by His gentle care.

We have been distracted, O Saad, from everything,

And preoccupied with your full recovery.

For the struggle and the beloved homeland

    Your blood flowed crimson.

Tell that sinful, murderous, deluded man:

May you be no more! How could you shoot at Simak?

What you have shot, in the person of Saad, is

A free nation—so may both your hands be paralyzed!
